Don't get me started on Early Music and Scotland! I could be at the
typewriter all day, and in an ambulance before nightfall.

Why am I getting back to the lute? I need one for my new post. I have just
become Musician In Residence to a University for 3,500 nurses!!! I have to
get them singing and playing. There will be many groups, from medieval to
free improv, including orchestra and choir. There is a Music Therapy Degree,
for which the students must posses Grade 8 standard in their first
instrument - which is quite high. I start in January. One of the groups will
play historical music. I don't yet know who will join. So far we have a
harp, a recorder, a keyboard player (electronic harpsichord and organ) and
singers. I can use my vihuela for many things, but might also require a
theorbo and/or 10c lute. Looking forward to it all.

There is also a student drama group. They are putting on a performance of
Ted Hughes' translations of ancient Greek plays - to be staged in Edinburgh
Bottanical Gardens - for which I have been asked to create music for
non-musician actors to perform...! I have my work cut out...

Subject: [LUTE] Re: tuning

Hi,

I just done a search on the web and it seems as you say there is not a
single baroque orchestra in Scotland. Why not, is the musical life of
scotland so conservative ?

Nice to see you want to return to the lute, why your sudden change of heart
?

best wishes
Mark
