I second David's opinion. Sadly, he is correct that the V&A tends to close this
particular gallery for whatever reason. My experience is that the musical
instruments gallery was closed two times out of three and no sweet talk would
persuade them to open it for an hour or two.

They do however say that they might be able to open it if they have a few days
advance notice. You might therefore wish to call them and tell them when you'd
like to see the collection. Their website states:

Please note that the details of these closures are subject to change as some
galleries are occasionally closed at short notice. If you are coming along to
the Museum to see something specific, call the following number in advance to
check:+44 (0)20 7942 2211, 9.00-17.30, seven days a week
