Everyone,

    With all due respect to POD, I think if he (or any
of our modern lutenists) were zapped back in time with
his lute, his playing would illicit some very strange
looks: "What manner of playing is this?  Why dost thou
contrive to perform these musicks the identical way
each and ev'ry time?  Canst thou not give us any
ditties that art a reflection of thine own genius?"
    (I might also add, as a polemical expression of
personal belief: "With what strange, unknown and
inflexible substance hast thou endeavoured to string
thine instrument?")
    As for nails... like everything else, who knows?
