the grain on my oud stands up in those places where the rounded tip of my plectrum pecks the sound board and below the strings where i consistently brush the top of my little finger across the grain as i play - there's a patinated area on the surface where this happens.
a nice tight grain is important in a lute but it's essential in something as small as a charango. wide gaps between the grain produces a distinctly mushy tone. is it possible to have wood grain too tightly compacted together - too much of a good thing? ... increasing the risk of cracking in very dry conditions? - bill early music charango ... http://groups.google.com/group/charango ___________________________________________________________ NEW Yahoo!
