Posted on behalf of Chris Goodwin, the Secretary of the (UK-based) Lute Society:
The 2004 issue of The Lute, Journal of the Lute Society, has, at long, long last, now appeared, and those who sub/scribed to the Lute Society in 2004 should find a copy on their doormat in the next few days. It contains three substantial articles: a sophisticated analysis of countless different versions of John Dowland's 'Lachrymae' pavan; a paper tracing the Classical etymology of the term 'fantasy' and showing how these roots inform 16th century musical ideas, as seen in Morley's definition of the fantasia and a fantasia by Francesco; and finally a paper cataloguing recent discoveries in Elizabethan song studies, notably the rediscovery of lost lyrics for the lute songs of the Brogyntyn MS. Extensive reviews of recent music editions include some of John Robinson's staggeringly erudite essays. If you were not a sub/scriber to the Lute Society in 2004 but would like a copy, send us a cheque for £10, 15 Euros, or US $17.50 which includes postage, to The Lute Society Southside Cottage Brook Hill Albury Guildford GU5 9DJ England and a copy will be sent by return. Or you can pay by Visa or Mastercard; send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for further details. best wishes Chris Goodwin To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
