Count me among the Fallen. I did exactly the same thing myself last week! Even just replacing courses 11-13 with Dan's gimped strings has transformed the sound. I also replaced all 6 courses of my 6- course Venere with gut. Larson strings on a Larson lute: I figured that must be a positive combination. The sound is fantastic! I had forgotten how beautiful that lute sounds all in gut.
