hi all, some of you asked about details to the lutebook of "elisabeth von hessen". som month ago thomas schall wrote about this:
"First of all the lutebook of Elisabeth von Hessen (whose godmother was Elisabeth I. from England) which appears in print for the first time. A book worth every cent of it's price which is nonetheless fairly high. Elisabeth's father, Moritz will be known to most of you because of the pavane which is printed in Variety of Lute Lessons. Some other pieces by him are contained here along with several pieces by Dowland (who stayed at the Hassian Court for a while) and even some unique pieces. Other composers are Jakob Reys, Lorenzini, Vallet, V. Strobel, E. Mertel, Montbuysson and Ph. Rosseter. Digging through this pieces I got the impression to have a "best of" collection in front of me. The difficulty ranges from fairly easy to advanced. The edition is printed on good paper in original size. A well informed preface gives valuable information about the manuscript, the music and the general background." ..all in all 100 folios of music. i was astonished to find this beautyful lutebook for 36? directly at the library oneline shop instead of 69? in common bookshops (amazon etc.). that was my reason to send this mail to the lute mailing group. greetings w. p.s. you can find a very informative paper of claudia knispel about this manuscript in The Lute 1996 Volume XXXVI of the english lute society. -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
