   Dear Lutenists:

I have done some research on the Internet and found AquilaU.S.A. makes
gut and silk strings . . . it will be interesting to experiment and see how
they sound. Of course after phosphorous winds it will be interesting to
hear the different intonation and the lower tuning of the Lute in D rather
than D#. I've only ever had a string break on me twice in 9 years of guitar
playing, although proper packaging could go a long way to alleviate rust
spots and strings missing in action in John Pearse specials. A beautiful
sound if you can find the time,

   with thanks,
