I'm ordering a 13 course baroque lute, and given my preferences (shallow body, bass-rider), my builder has two available:
--13 course lute after Hans Burkholtzer, 1596 (Vienna, Sammlung alter Musikinstrumente 44/n.e.48) String length: 68/73 cm. --13 course lute after Thomas Edlinger, c. 1715 (Leipzig, Musikinstrumenten Museum, N=BA 497) String length 76/81 cm. The Edlinger is said to be very nice, but look at the string length looks very long. My hands are average-sized; do you think 76cm is too long? Or, given all the open string work, etc., is it not an issue? Jim -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
