Renatus Lechner (http://www.renatus-lechner.de/) and the Schupp/Ferloni
workshop
(http://www.apizzico.de/instr_eng.htm) in Germany make reasonably prized
student
lutes. They only cost a bit more (starting at around 1000 Euro) but are three
times
better than those Pakistani lutes sold on Ebay and still a lot better than the
kits. In
Belgium you get good value from Renzo Salvador, in the USA people like to buy
Ed
Greenhoods student lutes, in Romania Gyorgy Lorinczi is very cheap, in Brazil
Luciano
Faria, and so on. Lots of good opportunities.
Good luck,
Stephan
