David, I think to soprano is not too bad. The alto appears to use a different temperament, though ;-)
Here in Germany, we have an long tradition of boy's choirs, and I mean several centuries at least back to 1500. The Tölzer Knabenchor is one of the top five. The singing instructors normally know very well what they do, and it is a matter of fact that many professional singers were former boy soloists. Boy soprano singing can't be all bad for the voice. Do you know Peter Kooij's Bach bass cantatas CD? What a fine voice. He sang together with Christoph Prégardien in the boy's choir at Limburg, not too far from me. This all notwithstanding, I decidedly prefer a decent woman soprano and also a femalo alto over the fashionable countertenors. Best wishes from Bonn, Germany Gernot P.S. I have no idea who the players are. I could find out, but I reckon it is not too important?
