First string: anything between 2 hours and 2 months, depending on brand and
luck.
Second (and for some people third) course: anything between several weeks to
several months, depending on technique, softness or abrasiveness of fingers
and or nail ends touching strings.
The rest: years.
A friend of mine has sweaty hands and suffers from strings turning green and
degrading more quickly.
