i'm currently embroiled in a dust-up over on the rec.early.music site - although i hope everything has settled down now - over just how old this sort of folk music is - did folks sing like this in the medieval/renaissance periods ... did they sing or even play instruments at all? incredibly prickly, pedantic and difficult exchange.
