Dear Neil,

Yes, the dissertation is listed at his university,
Washington University in St. Louis. There are 2 copies,
one of which circulates. The DA number,
etc., is given in DDM, so I do not undestand why it is
not available through Pro-Quest. And I've found
libraries that ownthe UMI off-print. Some own both.

I am unaware of the copyright procedures at Washington
U. But _I_ own the copyright
to my dissertation, as is indicated in the UMI form at
the
beginning of my dissertation.

Anyway, the Boethius publication would probably contain
Kevin's last thoughts on the matter, and that may be why
the
dissertation is not available through Pro-Quest. He is
named as copyright owner on the Boethius book.

Dissertations are, or at least should be, public
documents. I do know that one can suppress
"publication" for a certain length of time, if one
intends to publish the dissertation materials.

Perhaps if the work is published, it may be possible to
withdraw the dissertation from UMI, so as not to be in
competition with one's self. And UMI does not pay
royalties until a minimum number of copies are sold.

The book is still in print for 21-28 British poinds:

Severinus is the new Boethius. Clever name change.
Boethius's
clerical name (when he became a monk) was Severinus.
