This "music lessons" SCAM has been around for many years. The broken English is typical. Even Alice Artzt gets the offers. And I saw warning on a saxophone list. The same approach has been made when one advertises a musical instrument for sale. It's a birthday present. so haste is needed to complete the "deal/scam." People have been lured to take their automobile to Nigeria for a free vacation, and then robbed of everything. Sometimes the victims have been murdered.
(Some of these scams were practiced centuries ago.) In the lessons or instrument scam, the person writing will send more money than requested, and then ask that the excess be forwarded to an accomplice to pay for, say, the student's room and board. It is easy to be lured when promised as here of giving three lessons each week. And if you decide to take advantage of the rich foreigner by doubling your lesson fees for the little gaffer, . . . It's a "Nigeria Scam." The "certified bank check" (notice the all caps here) is counterfeit, and sooner or later will bounce. You can find information about Nigeria Scams on the web pages of the FBI and of Scotland Yard. These crooks also send their bogus offers through the mails. Their volume is so great, that they use counterfeit Nigerian stamps. Charlotte gets them at work now and then. You should send the information to the FBI. See http://www.fbi.gov/majcases/fraud/fraudschemes.htm (scroll down to Nigeria 419 Scams) These people have stolen MILLIONS of dollars from unsuspecting, gullible persons. I'm on their list and like Chris get an e-mail from them about once a week, always from a different person with a slightly different modus. (I'm going to watch for the double first names.) For a while it was amusing to read the letters (from the widow of the vice-president of a Zimbawe gold mining company, etc.), but by now I'm bored with them, and it's easy to spot them in my In-Basket. Chris said it properly. When it's too good to be true, it usually is (or isn't???). ==ajn. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron Andrico" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, April 06, 2007 10:24 AM Subject: [LUTE] lute teacher Needed..Scam? > > Has anyone else been receiving messages like the one > copied below.
