For those of you that don't get the LSA quarterly (and for those who do, since I've got some new information), an update:
The Western edition of the 2007 LSA seminar will be held in cooperation with Early Music Vancouver from July 29 - Aug 3 on the Univ. of British Columbia Campus. The faculty are: Bob Barto Ronn McFarlane Pat O'Brien Paul O'Dette Grant Tomlinson The Sunday following the end of the course (Aug 5) will feature a concert by the Dowland Project. The seminar will take advantage of that by focusing (loosely) on music of the British Isles. A tentative (but reasonably firm) list of topics includes Solo and vocal music of John Dowland (by Paul O'Dette and Pat O'Brien, respectively) The Scottish lute, including both Renaissance sources and the Balcarres manuscript for 11-course Baroque lute, by Ronn McFarlane. Masterclasses by Paul O'Dette and Bob Barto "Ornamenting the Repeats", by Bob Barto for Baroque lutenists Continuo, by Pat O'Brien Lute technique, by Ronn McFarlane Lute construction, by Grant Tomlinson (who will also serve as the Lute Doctor) Tuition includes classes, two private lessons with a faculty member, two faculty concerts, a student concert, and a chance to spend a week with other lute enthusiasts in a beautiful setting. For those benighted souls who have yet to experience a Pacific Northwest summer, Vancouver at this time of the year is usually pleasantly warm and dry.
