Dear Collecrive Roman and Wisdom,
I took a look at the descrption of all the angelique
tablatures in Bottticher's RISM Bvii, 7 items total.
The only tuning that he spells out is the one equivalent
to a diatonic scale from C to e'. He gives it (or
indicates it is present) in the titles marked with an
asterisk. (But that doesn't mean much, since Boetticher
cannot be trusted for anything!!)
Oxford, Ms Mus 1187 (James Talbot's MS) gives runings
for "Angelique or Angel Lute."
*Brno, Ms Inv 40811/A 3529
*Mainz (Federhofer): "Blouin a Rome")
*Paris, Vm7 6212
*Schwerin, Mus 640
Berlin/Cracow, Mus Ms 40597 ("Mandora- [Angelique-]
Tab.")
So that's it. Rather disappointing, I must say. I'd
give Talbot's manuscruipt a look. By the way, RISM
publishes a little index to Boetticger's volume. It is
very handy and was compiled by Christian Meyer. If you
own Boetticher's book, you should have the Meyer index
to it. You really need an index to what Boetticher
put together.<g> Fortunately the needs that were to be
fulfilled with Boetticher are now being met be Meyer,
Kiraly, Goy, Crawford et al. But because Boetticher was
to bring out the definitive bibliography of lute music,
no
one else worked on it for the 35 years he had it "in
progress."
