Hello Kevin, Based on Giovanni Hieber (around 1580) 6 course: I don't know the proper technique for measuring string length. Measuring from the outside edge of nut to outside edge of bridge, 61cm. There is a strap button on my lute, so exact measurement for the center rib is off a bit. Center rib measured 61cm. It looks like Martin's rule-of-thumb applies to my lute.
