AFAIK there is very little tab from that period in England. Are you sure you don't mean late 1500s and early 1600s? That was the golden time for the lute in England from Johnson, Dowland, Batchler etc. The lute you need to play this repertoire is from 6-9 courses. Many beginners choose an 8 course. I don't know why, there is actually not that much music written specifically for 8 course compared to 7 course. I recommend a 7 course. It is easier to play than an 8 course and will allow you to play all but the latter bits of this repertoire.
