Special Dowland Program at the SFEMS Workshop June 24 - 30, 2007 The Renaissance Program at the SFEMS workshop will be offering a special program on the works of John Dowland this year. We have just added a class in technique for all of Dowland's works, including the solos, consort music and lute songs. There is a specialty class in the lute songs with Laurie Heimes, soprano, and Lawrence Rosenwald, text & poetry. A unique opportunity. For background, you are welcome to download & read my dissertation on the lute solos (warning: academic writing) <http://www.voicesofmusic.org/tayler/dowland.html>http://www.voicesofmusic.org/tayler/dowland.html
All aspects of Dowland will be considered: the editions, the manuscripts, the ornamentation, the style of lutes, historical technique, etc. In addition, all of the activities of the Renaissance & Medieval workshop will be available. <http://www.sfems.org/medren.htm>http://www.sfems.org/medren.htm Lute Away Program: for those unwilling to travel with their instruments, we have a number of high quality lutes (renaissance & medieval), theorbos & archlutes for loan.
