So learning the shapes is the important thing.  Even with a fixed  
pitch, a shape will have a different name depending on where you use  
it on the fingerboard.  The person asking the original question  
wisely asked about shapes, not names.

There are some instances where the guitar can be a different size,  
e.g. a terce guitar, where the player still plays from the same notes  
he would if he were playing in E.
