Jim,

     You also may want to play much closer to the
bridge than you would on guitar.  It will take some
getting used to to find the spot between too brittle
and too syrupy-sweet.  Playing closer to the bridge,
however, A)makes it easier to play, B)gives more
control over tone colors, articulation, and dynamics,
and C)has the weight of considerable historical
evidence behind it. 

    Note that the majority of players - novice and
professional alike - play too far from the bridge most
of the time.
