Some time ago, it was recommended putting a damp cloth in a plastic-bag inside the lute case to maintain humidity.
I would suspect this might become a source of mould over time. Maybe change it for a sachet of 'silica-gel' during climatic damp spells? We often find this packed in with electrical and optical equipment, Wood itself does not grow mould, only where damp present. Maybe it is residual hand-sweat from its last playing? I try not to be too frantic when I play! Best Wishes Ron (UK) -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
