Hi all, Stuart Walsh recently pointed out on the cittern list a cittern for sale in the UK via ebay (see tiny url below). Peter Forrester has pointed out that this appears to be a copy of the Campi instrument in the Royal College of Music. The seller, while acknowledging that the instrument is a copy, believes that the instrument is possibly much older than a 20th century copy (see below*), which seems rather doubtful.
I am wondering if anyone on the list can identify this particular instrument, either by having been its former owner or as having seen it in the hands of a player you know? If so, please contact me off-list. Definately not a product of the modern folk revival, much older than that. Very good condition which belies it's age somewhat. Late C19th certainly possible i.e. Gothic / Medieval revival. Ist half of C20th also possible, I think there was an interest in Harpsicords and other Renaissance instruments up to the 50's. I honestly can't see it being later than that, and even that estimate is pushing the boat out a bit."
