They seem to have an abundant supply in Sweden. # GM:3889 is the
instrument pictured in Ruggiero Chiesa's edition of the "gallichone"
partitas by Brescianello, called colascione by Chiesa.  He is among the
many who have confused the colascione with
the galichon.  The museum calls both instruments mandoras.

I have often wondered if # GM:3889 is a fake made up out of discarded
parts
from several instruments.  Was it a stage prop for commedia dell'arte? The
rosette looks to be painted on (in Chiesa's photos), like some other
decorations. The
fingerboard seems too narrow for all those strings (I count 11 pegs) tied
to
that bridge. The neck looks like one of my great-grandmother's bed
posts.<g>
