I am bobbing my head in agreement.
BTW I just gave a series of preconcert lectures which included a
discussion about the passacaglia. I used an excerpt from Mein Freund
ist Mein by CPE Bach from your CD. Focused on that glorious moment a
bit after 2 minutes where the singer holds a single note and the chords
shift below it. I think it is one of the most compelling features of
the passacaglia that a single note has a different role in each chord
of the harmony (5th, 6th, 7th, then ocatve) and that we feel the note
change even though it is constant, like an auditory illusion. In any
case, I included the Magnatune info on my handout sheet, so I hope it
generates some interest.
