I've had an R-09 practically since they first came out (2/3 years?)
It was a no brainer at the time because the only competition was the
M-Audio which took forever to boot up. One thing I can say is that
I've dropped it numerous times and it is still kicking. Also, I can
use it with one hand without looking at it while I'm driving. I
cannot comment on sound quality because I only have the one.
My friend had a Tascam and a Zoom and took them both back for some
reason, but what does he know, he still likes MDs!
