You could always try a gut bucket:-) Only one string to deal with and no
frets to complicate choosing the right temperament (although I did see one
last summer that had three strings).

Having only 4 courses/strings is a bless! With my ren. guitar - 4 courses
- for ex. -  the key doesn't matter much. The more courses, the more
problems... :-)
