It works both ways. I can think of a number of highly accomplished and successful lutenists and musiclologists in the lute world with academic positions as solid and secure as anyone's, at places where the "guitar guy" would still be the first to go. > No chance to eliminate 20 or so versions of "Kemp's > Jig."
