FoMRHI has, in fact, been resurrected and two journals have now
appeared (third imminent). The administrator is Chris Goodwin (also
Lute Soc secretary so contact on their website)

not much is available, this is one of those issues each luthier has to
address the hard way; it includes assesment of the quality of the
particular piece of wood you use for the top; each piece is potentially
differnt in subtle but important ways.

Dave Van Edwards is a renowned museum conservator and builder. He gave an
online seminar on building some years back, and developed it into two
DVD;s which he now sells at a very reasonable price. See his website for
details http://www.vanedwards.co.uk/.

A few lute tops have been measured and discussed in FoMRHI and the Galpin
Society Journal. Sadly, FoMRHI is not in print or archived at this time.
GSJ is available online thru JSTOR, and there are searchable indices
online.

Amsterdam is conveniant to many reputable builders and some summer
building workshops...
