Thanks.
I think it was in fact shot on a JVC camera.
I was able to cut it up into smaller clips in Streamclipper, but the
resulting files behave the big one.
So here's a raw fragment - http://vimeo.com/3824056

Does not have to be demuxed, but DVD is tricky. Sometimes demuxing
can be easier but it should not be necessary except for some JVC cameras.
NB: Don't use DVD video cameras to record anything :)
If you have an actual DVD Rom, that is, it has been burned to play on
a DVD standalone player, you have a directory called VIDEO_TS that
has IFO and VOB files.
You can either edit the VOB files or RENAME them to MTS files.
If you recorded to DVD media either as MPEG or AVCHD or some other,
proprietary format, you need to copy that file and work on it in
whatever software space is called for. Not all NLEs will edit H264 files,
etc.
If it was a JVC camera, you have to use JVC software to convert it to
standard MPEG.
If you really get stuck you can copy the DVD and send it to me, the
VOB files can be combined into standard MPEG using the DOS combine
command, if you are working with VOBs.
You can also upsample the SD to HD at that time which is highly
recommended, depending on whether it is for internet or whatever.
Also make sure that you set your deinterlacing parameters correctly.

First thing is to look on the DVD and see what the file are.
If you have the camera it was recorded on, you can play it drectly
into your computer either with firewire or USB.

Dear Collective Wisdom,
I have seemingly successfully ripped the data from the DVD of my
concert last September, but I cannot get video to render in Final
Cut (audio renders OK...).
Does the file have to be demuxed to be editable?
And, if yes, how does one do that on a Mac?
