I know that some of you will have heard of the Scottish music academic, David Johnson. I am sad to report that he has died. The funeral is on Friday. David wrote THE book on Scottish music of the Enlightenment period: Music and Society in Lowland Scotland in the Eighteenth Century (OUP, 1972). He was a help to me and other lute players, as well as other musicians. My student baroque ensemble played an edition he did of a Sonata by McGibbon only two weeks ago, and they were amazed that such fine music had been written in Edinburgh. David brought many such works to light, and pushed them long before playing Scottish music became fashionable among Early Music groups. He made a big contribution and will be missed.
I know that two or three of you knew him personally, which is why I have announced his death here. Rob MacKillop -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
