Dear lutenists and "hang around gang",

I have stringed and tuned my archlute (Stephen Barber, 1987) to a
"Théorbe de pieces" in d (a'=392). This kind of high theorbo really
feels the right thing to the French "middle baroque" - the times of
Louis XIV.

I've just made only a few recordings by that "axe", but I guess this
is the way to go, when playing de Visee and his contemporaries - I
assume they really had this kind of sound in their mind then...

My (modest) performances up till now are:

* Anonymous French pieces in manuscript Res-1106:
          o Vaudeville (ms. Res-1106, fol 64v)
          o Plainte d'Atis (Lully?) (ms. Res-1106, fol. 9r)
* Robert de Visee: Pieces in A_mi_la_mineur (ms. Saizenay)
          o Prelude (Saizenay, p. 256)
          o Allemande La Royalle (Saizenay, p. 253)
          o Chaconne (Saizenay, p. 258)

You'll find links to the tubes, and also the music, in page
  http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/wikla/mus/Tiorba/deVisee/

And there will be more of this stuff... ;-)

All the best,

Arto
