Yes, dance it is; one link in my page shows the Playford version:

It even gives the coreography, the "steps"! But I guess you must be a professional early dancer to understand the sparse advice?

And, to add to the others you mention, as a flute duet in Blavet (with many variations) and a setting also with many variations for cistre in Pollet's 2me Recueil.
