I got this from an acquaintance who builds harpsichords: > I'm interested to get a solo lute CD with a strong sense of > meantone in the tuning, maybe even Renaissance approximating 1/4 > comma.
I explained to him that pretty much all the solo renaissance lute records made in the recent decades are in some sort of meantone, that players don't tend to advertise their tuning systems, and many use an ad hoc approach not easily characterized, and technically temperament on the lute doesn't mean what it means on the harpsichord because one fret sets five different pitches. I also said I'd pose the question here. Any suggestions? -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
