also guitar-like, tho perhaps a tad early.

yet, one wonders if any other iconographical or physical evidence exists
for parchment rose lute soundboards?  Lots of instruments must have gone
to davy-jones locker along with their owners from huricanos and what have
you, but surely a few men of power and sufficient wealth to afford the
instrument avoided glory-seeking in the new world and managed to stay home
and dry.
