might be possible using older used macs too. Apple has technically
obsoleted lots of machines with recent OS X upgrades, Leopard wont run on
older G4's, and snow leopard only runs on, hmm, whatchamacalit hardware,
the stuff we all thought Macs would obsolete some day.

The older G4 I use now was a gift, still useful, even for the video you
are talking about; street value might be $400, if I could find a buyer;
much of that lies in the PCI cards and memory I added to it.

Look to mac resellers for info, most of them are happy to correspond and
configure your new toy with memory, support for todays hard drives, a way
to connect whatever camera you are using. Firwwire is built into many G4
machines, but not all; however a pci card fixes that cheaply; and drivers
are built in.

The ilife suite of applications was bundled with G4's when they were new,
but often is long gone for a used machine; however, ilife08 is available
for those machies running Tiger (like mine), and ilife 09 is current an
will run on any machine using the leopard version of OSX operating system;
neither ilfe versino is terribly expensive.

Whichever OS you are using, you should own a set of the DVD or CD install
media; apple will have updaters for it that you can download for free.
Once you have your Tiger system patched up to 10.4.11 you should copy it
to a flash drive or burn it to DVD for a backup. Then the fun begins!
