MT comes in many flavours. MT 'proper' is 1/4 comma MT, but many
Renaissance lute and theorbo players opt for 1/6 comma MT. For
Medieval music you can tune to Pythagorean temperament. Baroque lute
is pretty much ET, as the intervals between the strings don't allow
much else. Some b-lute players do shift some frets depending on the
key they are playing, but the results are not always succesful. ;-)

When playing with other people one has to come to some sort of
agreement or learn to adapt. Compromise is inevitable.
