I repost this as it didn't turn up in the archives:

Thx Wolfgang!

Did anybody notice Judenkunig's rule of tuning?

"Primo cordam testudinis ceteris maiorem crassioremque omnibus cum sua
octava certo nec nimium intenso modulo intende."

= First tune that lute string, which is bigger than the rest and thicker
than all, with its octave in a certain, but not too tense way.

After that he goes upward, tuning the 5th to 1st courses. So, this is
the opposite way: Not the 1st course first, and as tense as it will
suffer. Instead, 6th course first, and to a recognizable pitch, but not
too tense. This lute won't need a new 1st course every week.
