Dear All, A friend of mine has asked me this question: When a seventeenth-century copyist abbreviated a word and indicated it by writing a line over the last letter, rather than a dot after it (e.g. Preludiu for Preludium), is there a proper term to refer to that line? I don't now the answer. Can anyone help? Stewart McCoy. -- To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
