YouTube now supports 1080p high definition.
Videos that are uploaded in 1920x1080 resolution will usually appear,
after a day of extra encoding, with an elevator menu button on the
red HD button. The button does not appear right away, and, NB, you
must log out to see the button (just to make everyone stress a bit,
I'm sure they will fix this) It works best with Google Chrome, but
works with other browsers as well.

What does it all mean?
Well, if you have the time and the bandwidth your videos will look
better. Even if your goal is 720p, the extra file size is put to good
use by youtube's encoders, so "regular" HD sees some benefit as well

You can see the difference here

You can view both 720p and 1080p

If you have nothing else to do, you can look at the 720p version
uploaded a few months ago here to see a more pronounced difference.

When I remastered the video for 1080p I went through each frame (and
it is a lot offrames) and removed the grain, so the new version looks
pretty clean, just to see how good the youtube converter is. If you
look at the background, it has less shimmer due the digital gain that
is present to a greater or lesser degree in all video.
It definitely is not as good as the original, but it right now is the
best video image you can stream. And free.....
