MODERN NOTATION

All of the books I have on modern music engraving practice ignore
tablature notation, and the college music library is between semesters, so
no consulting there for a couple more weeks.

In normal staff music for ensemble scores with multiple parallel staves,
brackets join staves needing to be read together by the conductor, such as
string sections, chorus, brass ... .

Brackets are drawn from the top line of the first stave to the bottom line
of the last stave in the section, straight-forward, except when tablature
staves are involved.

When the top stave is tablature, there is an area above the lines where
flags are shown, and that raises a question.

Should the bracket include the flag area or not?

A similar issue exists with the bracket that sets off an incipit.
