I am reading The End of Early music by Bruce Haynes at the moment. I recognise his described three ways of making music in many people's reactions on this list: romantic, modern and HIP. (Which he defines as Historically Inspired, by the way, in stead of Informed, what I always thought it was supposed to stand for.) These three philosophies of music making, combined with not always perfect reasoning, nor writing, and a strong dose of passion, do not amount to reasons for apologies, they just amount to lute cafe talk. David - had concerts with music by Bach, Graupner and a contemporary piece (ink still wet!) this weekend. The programme was announced in the news paper as 'music by Loher (the modern guy), Graupner and others'. -- ******************************* David van Ooijen [email protected] www.davidvanooijen.nl ******************************* To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
