HI,

I've attended the LSA 3 times, and had never problems with my
   instruments.

I traveled from Buenos Aires to Cleveland with 1 stop, where I switched
from a big plane to a smaller one.

   SO,

first time I've carried an 8-course renaissance. It fitted in the
overhead bin of the big plane (777 at least, as far I can remember),
but for the small plane I had to check it at the gate.

second, but a 6-course renaissance, the same.

2010, I could take the instrument with me inside the cabin in both
planes, but this time I carried a small vihuela in A (being slightly
   bigger than a violin case)

No breakages, no problems at all.

I cannot tell about bigger instruments.

   regards,

   Laura

Thinking ahead to 2011, I hope to attend the Lute Society Seminar,
traveling by plane. At least one person has said that he never has
had a problem with being allowed to carry his instrument onto the
plane with him, checking it in at the gate (this is assuming a
smallish Renaissance lute & case). Have others here found that they
have been able to do this? Or not been allowed to do this?
