While on the subject of Louile, it is interesting that he adapted the 
monochord to a KLO (Korg Like Object)
I suppose instead of a monochord it could be a tricorder.
Anyway, this pocket sized device was used to tune harpsichords, or 
anything else.
It also highlights the difference between "theoretical" and "actual" 
temperaments.
A theoretical temperament may or may not have been used, but a KLO 
(there is a device made out of an organ pipe as well) gives us a step 
closes to practical use.
The Loulie version gives us a system for French music around 1700, 
the are also a number of surviving organ pipe tuners as well.
A citterm gives us a pretty good look at an actual temperament.
