Dear Collected Wisdom, Rostock ms. xvii-54, probably written around 1668, contains a little suite by Philipp Rosseter (1568-1623) in French flat tuning for a 12c lute (p. 329-331).
Is this to be considered evidence for the rapid spreading of this type of lute by Jacques Gaultier, active in Britain from 1617 on? Or should the suite rather be viewed as a surprisingly late adaptation of renaissance lute music for a newly fashionable instrument? Any opinions? -- Mathias To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
