it maay have changed in time, my awareness of them began with moms LP
collection in the 50's; I was always dismayed by their casual approach to
intonation, I eventually learned that they paid more attention to other
aspects of play.

Eye contact need not be direct to be effective in synchronicity -
peripheral visino is quite sufficient; what is important tho is that one
uses what is seen, however unconciously.
