Dear Claudia,

with compassion I have followed the weather problems in Australia -
slowly but steadily one asks oneself what will happen if the 2 degrees
additional earth warming that seem to be accepted as inevitable among
the world leaders and others have occurred soon in the future. Maybe
peg tuning gets even more difficult...

I am writing you because I had the problem of turning the pegs a while
ago. I bought a guitar peg turner which then turned the pegs, but once
I broke the neighbouring peg because the peg turner was too big. So be
careful with these instruments. As I did not want to go back to hurting
and ruining my fingers I - o is hard to describe... Maybe this works: I
have got those flexible nail files from body shop. I buckled it in the
middle and now have a perfect tool to put beween my fingers for turning
   the pegs.

But maybe humidity etc is relly so bad in your case that you will not
be able to turn the pegs adequately, or even would break them. As far
as I know there are special waxes you could put on them - maybe you ask
   your luthier.

   Regards
   Franz

Betreff: [LUTE] New to the list

     Hi All,
I've just joined the Lute List and am a new player having taken up
Lute in 2010. I have a beautiful instrument made for me last year by
Stephen and Sandi in London which I picked up in May. Now that it's
summer I am also experiencing huge peg turning issues (as per Anthony
Hind's note of last year). It's very wet and humid this year with
all the La Nina rain. (which is all through Aus not just in Queensland
   etc).
For last few days I haven't been able to turn the pegs at all. I've
tried the heat/drying technique suggested but given it hasn't really
helped. (Actually, I might try a hair dryer....Hmm)
Today I've managed to move the pegs a bit and have almost re-tuned the
whole instrument. Now I have numb fingers and thumbs and practice will
   have to wait!
If anyone can let me know where I can get a peg turner from to help
that would be just grand. I can't find anything on the interweb...
   Regards to all.
