There have been a few lute-players in Australia that made lutes on David van Edward's on-line projects in 2000/2002
They may still be on this list. But hopefully, they can also be located via eg. Lute.ning.com. They probably still possess tools to trim pegs and ream peg-boxes. Maybe they have peg-dope, peg-paste to spare. I am aware of one maker in Sydney and also one player. In Hobart Tasmania there is another player. Not sure about Melbourne which is between the two. Being that far south is more like the European climate, so there should be. Australia is a vast country, where the population mostly lives around the coast. The climate is conducive to a lot of outdoor activities and sport, far from European history and therefore less interest in the lute. We welcome anyone that can change that!
