Very interesting effect, Arto, which makes the effect more plausible with the pieces of Attaingnant. Charles Besnainou does seem to have succeeded in producing a buzz with double frets, however only by spreading the frets to achieve some sort of buzzing.
This is clearly not the satet of the lute in the painting.
